WHY SAK'IZWE NOW?

Sak'izwe meaning 'We build the nation', is an engagement opportunity builder. Our mission is to inspire and promote impactful conversations between people from different races, ethnicities and nationalities. Through engaging in tough, sometimes uncomfortable conversations we seek solutions to some of the most critical issues we face. Our concern is access to education, wealth, health and equal opportunities for all people. Through the lens of Anti-racism we analyse language, institutions, policies and symbols with the intention to build a better and more just world.

MKIZE AND SAK'IZWE NOW

Founded in 2021

Njabulo Mkize, the founder of Sak'izwe Now, shares a similarity with this organisation in that both are missing an "h". Mkize should be Mkhize and Sak'izwe should be Sakh'izwe. However, this "h" represents more than just an alphabet.
The Mkize family lost their heritage and inheritance, their land, livelihood and lives all due to the racist apartheid systematic dispossession.
While Sak'izwe Now was established in 2021, the story of pain and the journey of awareness of the reality of being black in South Africa began for Njabulo Mkize at the tender age of 15. "This realization began when there was a school trip to the apartheid museum whereby the reality of death by hanging of our father, my grandfather, at the hands of the apartheid system became even more real and personal."
We need to build our nation now, as the name of our organisation states: Sak'izwe Now!
Reconciliation was good but not sufficient to correct the wrongs done nor to bring justice for the future of the previously oppressed and disadvantaged.
